Our New Curriculum

Core Subjects:

English

In studying English pupils develop skills in listening, reading and writing. These enable them to express themselves imaginatively and to communicate effectively. Outside of the classroom children develop self-confidence through performances in assemblies, displays and productions This comprises of English (level 1-8), Literature, Writing, Word Building, American Literature and English Literature.



In Preschool Department, teachers have a very practical approach to many aspects of the English curriculum making activities fun and interactive. The children learn to become confident in their abilities as readers and writers and develop phonic, picture and context skills to become more fluent. The children's love for books and stories is encouraged, and they are given opportunities to build on speaking and listening skills through activities such as role-play and circle time.

In Elementary, children are encouraged to speak confidently, listen to others and begin to read and write independently. They begin by focusing on familiar stories and nursery rhymes, moving onto stories from other cultures and favourite authors such as Roald Dahl.

In Junior High our programme teaches pupils to change the way they speak and write to suit a variety of situations, purposes and audiences. They read a range of texts from myths and legends to science fiction and historical novels, responding to the different layers of meaning found within the text.


Math

Mathematics equips pupils with tools such as logical reasoning, problem solving and abstract thought which are important to our daily lives. This includes Math (level 1-4), Intermediate Math (level 5-8), Algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2 and calculus.

In Preschool, the children take part in a rich selection of activities to encourage a practical understanding of mathematical concepts. They explore number, shape and measures building upon their own first hand experiences. Mathematical understanding is developed through stories, songs, games and imaginative play, so that children enjoy using and experimenting with numbers up to and larger than 10.

In elementary, teaching emphasises practical activities, exploration and discussion. Children learn to count, read, write and order numbers to 100 and beyond. They also learn to use mathematical language to talk about their understanding of shape, space and measures.

In Junior High, pupils use the number system more confidently. The emphasis is placed on fast paced mental agility exercises, and pupils are encouraged to use mental calculation to find solutions. Children are introduced to data handling, which is often linked with practical activities involving science or ICT.


Science

Science is taught through active investigation and experimentation. The programmes of study are: life processes and living things, materials and their properties, physical processes and scientific enquiry. In all key stages pupils are taught to ask questions, collect and evaluate evidence and present their findings. This includes Science (level 1-5), Animal Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science and Physics.

In preschool, the children develop their knowledge and understanding of the world around them through practical experience and exploration. They are given opportunities to explore, investigate and observe early scientific concepts. Children develop the crucial knowledge, skills and understanding to help them make sense of the world.

In elementary, pupils observe, explore and ask questions about living things, materials and phenomena. They work together to collect evidence to answer questions and to link this to scientific ideas. Their results are presented in the form of graphs, charts, and tables.

In junior high, pupils apply their knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas to everyday life and their personal health. They also begin to think of the positive and negative effects of scientific technological developments and their effect on the environment and other contexts.


Social Studies

Social Studies include World Geography, World History, Philippine History, Civics and Economics. The programme was crafted to give students a clearer and broader understanding of the world they live in. Furthermore, this is to equip them with essential knowledge and values needed for a globalized citizen.

In preschool, the children develop knowledge and understanding of their environment- the local culture through practical experiences. They explore, investigate and observe the environment they live in. They are given opportunity to develop concepts of social belongingness and patriotism.

In elementary, students explore, investigate and observe the different kinds of culture, places in the country as well as different parts of the world. They work together to answer questions and link evidences to have a broader idea on the world.

In Junior High, they are given the opportunity to learn on the different major culture and countries, understand their history and learn from the history of these great nations. Furthermore, they are being equipped with essential knowledge, ideas and skills they need for the college education.
